New Opportunity for Gospel Mission

New Opportunity for Gospel Mission

The Gospel Mission has been serving the less fortunate in Dayton since 1912. They conduct daily evangelical chapel services, followed by a nutritious meal in our on-site King's Table Restaurant (a commercially licensed kitchen). Currently, they are serving 70-110 people daily. All of the guests have limited, if any, financial resources and are reliant on government benefit programs. Many guests are homeless. Nearly all of the female guests live in the Gateway women's shelter.  A significant number of older guests live in senior (subsidized) housing.
Except for the head chef (who receives housing and a modest living allowance), each meal is prepared and served entirely by volunteers. During the course of a calendar year, they will work with nearly 200 volunteers, serving either individually or as part of a larger group.

Currently SouthBrook has one team that serves the third Thursday of each month but Gospel Mission but Gospel Mission is seeking more groups and has asked if another group (4-8 volunteers) could commit to a different evening once a month.

If interested or if you have further questions you can reach out to Rich Anglin: dirmindev@gmission.org or Kurt Kleiner: kurt.kleiner@southbrook.org

Deliver Groceries and Love to Germantown/Farmersville Student Families

Our Germantown/Farmersville team is partnering with a local church to provide a food supplement for under-resourced student families. We call them Sonshine Bags (a gift of love from the Jesus Christ, the Son). The church provides the groceries and we provide the delivery drivers. Deliveries are every 2nd and 4th Thursday between 5:30-7pm, but there is room for flexibility to allow it to work for your schedule. Drivers get the same route each time so they can build and grow relationships in the community. If you are interested or have questions text or call Digger Phillips at 937-422-7913.

Southbrook City Lights "Summer Fun Days"

In the Summer several of the children at Chevy Chase Apartments in Centerville are home alone during the day while their parent/guardian works.  This is especially true for the older age group because they age out of childcare after the age of 12. In addition, many of the children that have aged out of childcare are at home watching their younger siblings for the Summer.

SOUTHBROOK CITY LIGHTS is putting on a Summer Camp called "Summer Fun Days" at Chevy Chase Apartments July 15th-19th, 2024 from 11:00-2:00pm.  We are excited to engage and build relationships with these children, provide a hot lunch and lots of fun activities!  This year our theme is the "Summer Olympics in Paris 2024".  If you have a passion for positively impacting young lives please join us!

Taco Tuesday

There will be a guest speaker at TACO TUESDAY ON FEB. 27TH - CE 3 Founder and Executive Director,  Rameka Nelson.

SB City Lights is partnering with CE3 on a lot of programs within Chevy Chase Apartments. Rameka will be sharing the details of these exciting programs!  CE3 is a Community Enrichment, Encouragement and Empowerment non-profit organization seeking to achieve poverty alleviation with a focus on generational poverty and welfare through a holistic approach (holistic meaning a focus on a full-family approach, and not just an individual). We want to inspire people living in low-income communities to burst through the glass ceilings that have been placed on them and push them to do all the things people have told them aren’t possible.  CE3 partners with Chevy Chase Apartments as the Community Outreach Coordinator.  Our #1 priority is to build relationships and connections at Chevy through a variety of volunteer and fundraising/donation opportunities.  Chevy Chase is a low-income housing community where many of the residents are working towards independence from government subsidy through employment and continuing their education.

Advent

  • SouthBrook Christian Church (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Advent is a time of waiting for the arrival of Christmas. The story of Christ's birth is one of promise, hope, and revolutionary love. So, what happened? What was once a time to celebrate the birth of a Savior has somehow turned into a season of stress, traffic jams, and shopping lists. When it's all over, many of us are left with presents to return, looming debt that will take months to pay off, and this empty feeling of missed purpose. Is this what we really want out of Christmas? What if Christmas became a world-changing event again? We created this Advent calendar for you, and we genuinely hope you can find a way to use it to slow down the fast-paced hustle that Christmas has become and capture each day with your family. This is not a checklist or a to-do list; that would defeat the purpose! If some of the ideas won't work for you or your family, come up with creative ideas of your own.

Many activities are just plain old-fashioned fun that will help you spend quality time together. We hope some of the other events will remind you and/or your children of the true meaning of Christmas. We also think it's important this time of year to focus on others: those we love and those who may need a little extra help.

Merry Christmas from the City Lights staff!

SpookyBrook

Our mission of  'connecting people to Christ, not religion', can take on many 'forms'. And one of the most spook-tacular is SpookyBrook...one of our most successful outreach events. On Sunday, October 29 from 12-2pm we'll bring all ages together for an afternoon of family fun including food trucks, inflatables, and of course...trick or treating!

We invite you to support SpookyBrook!

DONATE CANDY: We'll need lots and lots of candy. So, the next time you're at the grocery store, ordering groceries online or shopping on Amazon, grab a few bags of candy to donate. Beginning October 1, all candy donations can be dropped off in the atrium or even shipped right to SouthBrook (9095 Washington Church Rd. Miamisburg, OH 45342, Attn: SpookyBrook).

VOLUNTEER: A team of 150 volunteers will make SpookyBrook happen and there are many ways to serve: Bring your vehicle and decorate your trunk, set up, tear down, deliver candy, check in the trunks and more. In order to ensure the safety of our kids, families and volunteers, SouthBrook runs a basic background check for every prospective volunteer who does not currently have one on file.  CLICK HERE for details and to sign up! You can also sign up in the atrium following our Sunday services during October.

INVITE: Consider inviting your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. Events like SpookyBrook are designed to make a first-time experience at SouthBrook comfortable and fun.  We've even made it easy, share our recent instagram post as an invite!

Springboro Community Assistance Center (SCAC) provides 75 students each week with food to take home to their families on the weekend due to food insecurity. SCAC already has volunteer groups providing the food for the weekends, but what they would like to have is a goodie bag for each of these 75 students, each week, that provides a fun treat for them to look forward to. We have offered to support this program for 3 months of the 2023-2024 school year (October, January, April) by collecting snack items to create these goodie bags. We are looking for snack donations and volunteers to meet on Wednesday, October 11th at SouthBrook from 7-8pm to assemble these goodie bags and write some notes of encouragement for these students! Please consider joining us for an hour to help put these together.
